Mushrooms to Kill
Fungus fascinates. The many types and varieties of it are even more fascinating. They are a plant variety that doesn’t require sunlight because they grow without chlorophyll. It gives them many places to flourish and grow, which is something worth exploring. We love the soulcybin we eat. For example, yeast can be used in cooking, as well as mushrooms.
They can be very costly, as we are quite dependent on them in the case of the letter. Many of the species are toxic and can be spread by insects, animals, or other organisms. One example of this is a fungus carried by an frog. It was brought into the Americas in the 1930’s to 1950’s to see if women are carrying it. After that time, the fungus was released into the wild. The result is the loss or hundreds of species worldwide of frogs and salamanders. The devastating effects of introducing species to one continent can have devastating consequences on the local fauna. The Cane Toad, which was introduced into Australia around the exact same time, is a deadly poison and is causing havoc on the wildlife.
Molds, smuts (rusts), mildew, yeast and other fungi all fall under the fungus category. Even though we are all aware of the dangers associated with most of these items, the ones that we have come into contact with most often pose the greatest risk. Magic mushrooms, such as those found in Australia’s wooded regions, give users a high comparable to other drugs. Some people are able to do outrageous things and even commit suicide while under the effects of this type. It is now against the law to possess or collect them.
Picking mushrooms from the field to eat is a risky move if one doesn’t know what they are doing. This was demonstrated in Canberra in 1912, when a Chinese cook discovered mushrooms that looked a lot like the ones found in China. He prepared the dish for friends from China, who were visiting that country at the moment. Unbeknownst to him, he had also served them the whitecap mushroom, which is one of most deadly fungus. The couple died in agony in hospital a few days later.
